Does anyone think after watching the Man Utd v Liverpool game that we might be the Liverpool of the church league? great team but argue with the ref too much and lose focus?

it was a sad day, as kenny said we are a much better team than that lot,Im quite pi**ed off the fact i could have scored a barrell load when i came on, but i seemed to have my phillip sebo boots on and nothing was going in. Lets keep the heads up and forget about it all and get back to winning ways.

Has anyone considered the fact that we might not be good enough and have aspirations that don't take into account limitations. There's only so many times we can blame Referee's, dodgy pitches, or "losing focus". The fact remains we've lost points where we shouldn't have this season and lost to teams we should be beating. Maybe we're not as good as we think we are? Not the most flattering comments here I agree but maybe this will hammer home a few truths and have us take a look at ourselves.

I have to agree with honesty, i don't want to play for a team though that manhandles the ref and shouts such abuse from the side of the park. Felt completely embarassed having to apologise after the game to a young ref who i still feel did nothing wrong. He called at as he saw it. We are not Bethany. We are not Leith.

I simply cannot agree that we are not good enough. The team as a whole can, and does, regularly compete with all the teams in the league. However, consistency can be a problem, as is our tendency to argue amongst ourselves (which has been the case as long as I have been with Ladywell). And at times we seem to be playing within ourselves (like against the 'lesser' teams that we think we should beat) and playing for ourselves, going for our own glory instead of looking to a team mate in a better position. When we band together, and play for each other, we can beat ANY team in the league. I do think we need a Striker as a final piece of the proverbial jigsaw, as the rest of the team can usually dominate games on their day. And as much as I am trying my damnest to get as fit as I can, I am not exactly the best footballer!

While a little passion, agression and competitiveness can enhance football; too much (and directing it in the wrong places) can cause us problems.

So let's put this behind us. Learn from it and start playing for each other again. Look at Rangers. They are pish. But they work hard and play for each other and are top of the league. We have a Keeper that can pull off unbelievable saves (as long as they do not force him to jump straight up!). A defence that has improved so much since I started, anchored by Tommy who is frequently one of the best players on the pitch each week. A midfield that is talented throughout. No central midfield must look forward to Makin and Kenny constantly harrying and running at them. And fullbacks must all have to bring new pants to the game at the thought of our wingers skinning them time and again. Up front, other teams know they cannot give Ranaldi a chance, cause he will take it, And I will run my ass into the ground to give them no time, and if Douglas is on he can bring the ball down and spray passes. That does not even take into account players like Grant and Craigy T, who have not played that many games for us, but make a difference when they do.

NO team in the league should look forward to playing us. But for the RIGHT reasons. Work FOR each other. Yes, sometimes you need to shout at someone (me usually) but keep it constructive and then work together to sort it out. If we play as a team, we can and will beat anyone.

Bit of a spiel from me, and I apologise, but I feel strongly about this issue, AND our team.

Maybe we need a wee team night out?

Oh, also (as if I have not said enough), on the point of the embarrassment of Saturday, I have always said to people that as much as I am not very good and do not expect to start or even play each week, the reason I turn up is we are such a great bunch of guys. We play the game because we love it, as much as wanting to win.

Saturday we were not that team. We were not those guys. We must learn from Saurday and previous Saturdays that have not gone so well to prove to ourselves and everyone else just how good we bloody well are!.

Peace out my Bothers.

Well our first major fall from grace. It was a very sad day and left the majority if not all of us feeling majorly embarrassed. We will lose games and yes we fail to play to our potential on far too many occasions but up until Saturday it was always fun. Still the important thing is to learn from Saturday and make sure there is no repeat. Sure we all get frustrated and can question decisions but not to the extent of Saturday's shambles.

As a group it is a highlight of the weekend coming together for the game, getting the banter and playing football that we all love. Think what we need to do is realise that it is only a game - which in fairness we mostly do - and enjoy the time we have playing.

NO REPEAT NO REPEAT OF THAT SORRY STATE OF AFFAIRS

The true mark of a sportsman is not how he handles victory but their behaviour in defeat

C'mon the Ladywell

Hi, understandably the focus is on the teams discipline (or lack of) on Saturday morning, and judging by the comments it looks as if people are right to make issue of it and look for solutions/remedies.

However, I feel I must respond to a certain Mr Hansen's criticism of Liverpool.... compared to the other teams involved in the so-called 'Grand Slam Sunday', Liverpool are the team that are least likely to harrass and harangue a referee and cannot remember many instances of them doing so (even in the days of Julian Dicks and Neil 'Razor' Ruddock), whereas we can all remember Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea players surrounding the ref's and screaming their heads off at him in the past couple of years. Up until Sunday afternoon Liverpool were sitting atop the Fair Play League - with no red cards to their name. They also finished on top of this league last season, and I think the season before, which would suggest they are a pretty fair, but solid team.

Had the second booking came as a response to Mascherano attacking the referee, either physically or verbally, then I would be the first to call the red card justified. Should red cards now be handed out for asking, in a calm manner "What's happening ref?", yet not be handed out for shouting at the ref "**** you, you ******** ******" (yes, I'm talking to you Mr Rooney), then the football world is in a strange place.

Additionally, reaching two Champions League finals within the past three years, and having progressed through to the quarters this year, you could struggle to justify the claim that they 'lose focus'.

Anyway, enough of my impartial viewpoint on Liverpool. And apologies to Seany for my attempts to surpass the length of his postings.

Damn, sounds like you guys had exactly the kind of game I love on Saturday, don't know the full story but sure if there, myself and Paul Robinson could have picked up a red card each :-) I am loving how passionate everyone is sounding for the Ladywell cause, hopefully I will be back for the start of next season fit and ready for a title push!!

Mr Benitez:- You obviously haven't watched the game back yet as Mascherano repeatedly swore at the official before his patience finally wore, yes the actual second booking was harsh but he could have already went several times earlier. Maybe you should be having a word with your so called captain who hid for the entire match and never once took on his duties by having a word with the boy to calm him down.

With response to seans comment, i feel the same. Ever since i was brought along to the team i have loved it, the banter, kick about and the fact you are all a great bunch of guys. The feeling of being part of a team is great. Ive tried to give 100% every game, i could be a lot lot sharper i must admitt and im working on it, im finding playing 11s tough not only on my fitness but the game in general, trying to cut out the mistakes and take my chances too . But untill i get to that stage i will try my hardest to play to the best of my ability and help the team.

  • Liverpool still have a chance in the leauge !!! c'omon the mighty reds!!!

Lets do this.

Well what can I say. After reading all these comments I agree with some but not all. Yeah I lost the place a bit on Saturday but it was three shocking decisions I lost it at. Ranaldi getting taken down for a clear penalty (did anyone see the player touch any of the ball?) Abbeyhill second the guy was three yards offside and Abbeyhill goal four the guy was standing behind Barry when he was passed the ball. Whilst I do not agree with Ranaldi's actions I can understand (to a certain extent) his frustration. As for calling us Bethany or Leith we have never punched or headbutted any other team. We are a generally fair team and the week before it was commentted we were a pleasure to play against. what went on, on Saturday was a blip in an otherwise pretty clean reputation.

AS for what will happen to Ranaldi. I believe he lost the head but has anyone seen him do this before? It was a red mist.

I believe we are good enough to win at this level but if we dont play as a team and spend our team 'having a go' at one another on the website or on the pitch it doesnt make playing for Ladywell enjoyable.
